Recently, we released a new flavor of Dajia’s Super Snacks: sunflower pumpkin. Made with sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, maple syrup, hemp seeds, and flax seeds, this new flavor is different from our two other flavors.
For starters, this flavor contains sunflowers, a very unique food because they are rich in vitamin E, copper, and other B Vitamins such as thiamine, phosphorus, and selenium. They also are full of fatty acids that promote a healthy cardiovascular system and a stable body weight. Magnesium, also present in sunflower seeds, is known to lower blood pressure, prevent migraines, and lower the risk of heart attacks and strokes. 80% of Americans do not consume enough magnesium, so sunflower seeds are a great way to do so!
The two main ingredients in our new flavor, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds, have the highest levels of phytosterols out of all the nuts/seeds. Phytosterols are compounds found in plants that are similar to cholesterol in chemical structure. Therefore, when sufficiently present in the diet, they reduce blood levels of cholesterol, enhancing the immune system and reducing the risk of certain cancers.
Along with fatty acids and phytosterols, pumpkin seeds are rich in zinc. Zinc is important for daily activities, such as sleeping, tasting, and smelling, along with insulin regulation and cell growth and development. A deficiency in zinc can lead to colds, flus, depression, acne, and poor school performance.
